Comments

The aerial photographs of the Villa Rustica, which has been known since 2007, show the remains of two outbuildings, a section of the surrounding wall and, to the west, parts of a possible main building.

The aim of the survey was to show the area around the suspected main building more clearly and then to survey the entire villa. The measurement results were very noisy due to an interfering layer of straw.

Unfortunately, all attempts to record the foundations in the western part of the villa, which were clearly visible in the aerial photograph, only produced extremely weak results. A second measurement over the suspected main building with a higher exposure of a = 1 meter only brought a minimal improvement in the result. In a control measurement, however, foundations of the southern corner building could be imaged very reliably. The reason why the western building structures were only recorded very poorly is unclear.

At present, a reasonable explanation is suspected to be an extremely poor state of preservation and/or the western foundations being too deep. A greater depth could have been caused by embankments during the construction of the county road immediately to the west.
