Comments
Most of this Roman settlement recorded so far is located in a vineyard. From west to east, slightly offset to the south in steps,
there are two rows with a total of 11 rectangular vineyards. Despite
the usual 0.6 m to 0.9 m deep plowing that preceedes the installation of
a Vineyard, the foundations of two presumed farm buildings (A 30m x 20m
and B 24m x 18m) in the southern row are quite well preserved. Further
uncertain structures (C) can be seen to the east. In the east of the
northern row of vineyards there is an approximately square anomaly (D)
that continues eastward. An address as a floor area or a modern, compact
storage area are possible. In the west of the northern row of vineyards
(E), large areas of collapse or geological stuctures are conceivable.
The
area west and south-west of the vineyards (F, G, H) consists of arable
land, the area south (I) is fallow. The following structures can be seen
on these surfaces:
F: the western surrounding wall running to the north, a rectangular building outside the courtyard area
G: two buildings attached to the surrounding wall, the southern one
with a floor. In between is a 3rd building, because of its apses attached to the west
it is presumably a bath
H: the southern section of the western surrounding wall with two additional buildings
I: a commercial or residential building (approx. 36 m x 20 m)
that differs in its orientation from all other roman structures and could be adressed as mansion (Urdorf Switzerland type)
